Sit with the legs crossed. The knees are slightly lower than the hips. The spine is erect. If you are a little stiff use a pillow or sit on a chair with the feet flat on the floor. Relax the shoulders back and down. Tilt the pelvic gently forward and relax the stomach. Rest the tip of the tongue on the roof of the month just slightly above the front teeth. Close your eyes. If you begin to feel sleepy, open the eyes one-tenth looking downward at nothing in particular. Focus your mind on your breath. Focus on listening to your breath. Allow your silent mind to focus on the rise and fall of the abdomen. Do not struggle to remove thoughts from the mind. Just naturally allow the settling of your body and spirit to carry them out.
As you sit in meditation take long deep breaths. These are breaths that inhale deeply but without force and exhale expelling the breath completely out. Breath in through the nose and release the breath out of the mouth. Gently and naturally. The breath is the link between the body and the cosmic energy. During the act of breathing energy is transmitted to all cells of the body. The breath serves as the medium to dispel negative energy and recharges the body. Think with your body. Think through your body by letting your thoughts and all mental images drift like clouds. Meditation causes the brain to be flooded with the same alpha waves found in deep sleep. Putting yourself in this state gives your brain a rest and allows the body to release nervous tension.
Health is as much a state of mind as it is a physical condition. The attitude does determine the altitude. The collaborated efforts of the mind, body and spirit can provide the overall body with a good environment to host good health. Good health is more than a sense of physical well-being. It is also more than the absence of disease. Good health emanates from the spiritual and mental level as well as the physical body. Generating and maintaining inner peace sets the stage for external harmony.
